On the way home from school today, I realized that, in one short week, we would be driving home for SUMMER. My hubby has to go 2 more days (for work days), but my daughter gets out of kindergarten on TUESDAY!
I must confess...I have mixed feelings about summer! One one hand, the idea of 24/7 family time for 10 weeks makes my heart SO happy! I have hated every minute of sending my girl to school this year (despite a great teacher and staff that is so welcoming of parents!), so the idea of having her with me all the time makes me smile. And, being able to spend every waking minute with my husband definitely makes my day! I am so blessed that my husband has a job that allows him to be home for so much family time. It will be nice to share the parenting load some for a few weeks so that I can recharge.
On the other hand, the idea of 24/7 family time for 10 weeks makes me nervous! I am the kind of mom who needs some "personal space" and "me time" occasionally. When summer comes, I can throw that idea out of the window!! Plus, it totally sends our daily routine into chaos. My husband tries so hard to NOT throw us out of whack, but just having someone else home changes things. And this is our first summer with TWO of them not used to being in the daily routine. I'm interested to see how things go! I do have a short anniversary trip to look forward to, as well as a 6 day trip with my in-laws to see some cousins on hubby's side for a graduation, and, of course, there's always Bible camp! 10 weeks sounds like SO much time, but I know that it will fly by! I'm looking forward to making so many new memories, which I hope includes at least a few mornings of sleeping past 7. :)
I'm curious...what's your favorite thing about summer? How do you make the time special but productive at the same time? Do your kids have "brain drain" over the summer? How do you combat that?
