The "Magic" of Seeds

I overheard a conversation this morning between my daughter and my husband.   They were talking about our garden, and how the seeds they planted a week or two ago should be sprouting this week.  They were plotting a time for the two of them to go check on "their" seeds.   They talked a few minutes about how God sent rain, sun, etc.  Then I heard my daughter say, "Daddy, it's kind of like there's a baby plant inside that seed, and when you give it what it needs, it starts to grow! Everything it needs is just waiting."   Can't say it much better than that!

Coincidentally, (or not, which is more likely!) I just "happened" to be studying the parables today and came across some comments about the parable of the sower planting the seed, and I thought about my daughter's comment.  She said that the baby plant was already there, just waiting for care and nourishment.  Is that not how our souls are?   Our souls are already there, waiting for someone to plant the seed and to show us the Way.   And, God's word is the seed.  Everything needed to "grow" a Christian is already present in that seed.   Plant that seed in a willing heart/soul, and it will flourish.  I've known all along that's what the parable meant, but for some reason studying it beside the statement she made brought it all home.  Sometimes, the simplest moments in life can teach the greatest lessons.
