Love the Skin You're In!
Skeleton
We made paper skeletons, labeled diagrams, and played "skeleton tag." We put the names of the bones on blank printable address labels and then the kids tagged the appropriate bones with the stickers. Later, when we did the muscles, we played "bones and muscles hokey pokey." Instead of saying "you put your head in," they'd have to say, "You put your cranium in," etc. :) The 3 year old I babysit was allowed to use "normal" body parts! Ha.
We made a moving hand!
The kids LOVED this song for learning the bones... Name Those Bones We even caught the 3 year old singing that "I got a CWanium, for my BWanium." :) The kids had to make their own songs up about muscles. They both used Disney songs...one used "Part of Your World," and one used "You Can Fly!" Even Mommy made one up to the Mickey Mouse Club march!
With the digestive system, we made these funny shirts.
We even "made poo" as mentioned in this post. Thoroughly disgusting.
We tried to "beat the clock" by transferring as much water in a minute as our heart does blood, but we couldn't!
One of their highlights was making "blood" using water beads, ping pong balls, water, and "felt" platelets. They would have played in the water beads all day...and more importantly, they could tell Daddy ALL ABOUT blood when he got home! Also, when they learned that exercise can double your white blood cell count, they became very enthusiastic about tae kwon do and running! :)
We printed and played a game about circulation, but it was very tedious, and they got bored before they got all the oxygen, carbon dioxide, food, and waste to the right places! The pictures for this and the blood are somewhere on the computer waiting to be found. ;)
We ended up the body unit by talking about nutrition and what food does to our body. After our mini-vacation for fall break, we are going to take a week or two to eat ONLY healthy foods and see how our bodies feel. :)
